The fantastic work of rank and file officers has been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Federated officers of Police Constable to Chief Inspector rank have been awarded honours including QPMs, CBEs, OBEs, MBEs, BEMs, The Queen’s Gallantry Medal and The George Medal.

Other senior officers, chief officers, police staff and those associated with policing have also picked up honours.

Of note was a continued increase in the number of Federated officers receiving the Queen’s Police Medal, 11 in total.

Steve White, Chair of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: “It’s fantastic to see these officers being rightfully recognised for the incredible work they do for the benefit of others.

“In recent months we’ve seen the magnificent work officers and emergency service colleagues do to help people in times of unprecedented demand.

“But their extraordinary efforts and desire to help others is something they display every minute of every day.”

PCs Craig Nicholls and Jonathan Wright from West Yorkshire Police will receive the prestigious Queen’s Gallantry Medal for their brave actions in the arrest of the murderer of Jo Cox MP on 16 June 2016.

Also included in the list of those honoured is PC Keith Palmer, who has been awarded a posthumous George Medal for bravery to commend his heroic actions in protecting members of the public and Parliament from an armed terrorist in March this year.

Mr White said: “This is a fitting honour for someone whose immensely brave, intuitive actions undoubtedly saved lives.

“The attack highlighted the very real risks that police face every day and the pain felt by Keith’s family, friends and colleagues continue to be shared by us all.”

In her final days as Home Secretary, the now Prime Minister Theresa May made it clear that she wanted to see nominations for QPMs in particular proportionately reflect the diversity of the workforce.

Mr White added: “It’s encouraging to see more frontline officers being honoured than ever before and it’s important that this momentum continues.

“From all at the Police Federation, warm congratulations to everyone receiving some of the nation’s most prestigious recognitions for your exemplary service and commitment.”
