Krycek 1,190
More recent video of deployment. Good that the uploader included some more context in the video description, not something you see very much in these types of videos: EDIT: Although it does look like an officer gets zapped at about 30 secs Edited May 23, 2015 by Krycek
TheJesusofKayaking 0
Was that a firearm the cop handed over to his mate at 1:48? And why did he go rushing back to the scene as if he was a major player in the incident when there were at least 7 constables dealing?
TheJesusofKayaking 0
According to Taser International yes, a taser should be backed up with a conventional firearm... You see what direction this is going in? Test tasers and train police into using them routinely the go full on firearms route as of the goof old US of A. Coming soon to your streets? I'm not going to disclose potentially operational information about the prerequisites that need to be met in order to authorise a firearms deployment, but I will say that incidents that historically would have always been a firearms deployment are now being dealt with by officers armed only with Taser. It's arguably a tragedy waiting to happen.

Either way, it needs looking at. Well done for spotting it.

Like here really. Anywhere else in the world that guy should have been shot. I wouldn't have risked a Taser malfunction on a guy waving two knives. Test tasers and train police into using them routinely the go full on firearms route as of the goof old US of A. Coming soon to your streets? For officers on the ground it has actually gone the opposite way - where once upon a time firearm cops would have been deployed now beat cops with tasers are being deployed. The problem with taser is it isn't the miracle defensive tool it is played out to be - cops are being put in risky situations with a device that isn't all that reliable and is realistically a one shot use before reload. Had this incident taken place in the 80s or 90s that man would no doubt have been shot by armed officers as there would have been little other options bar perhaps a baton round to the chest which again isn't going to do you any good, especially at close range. Taser has its place but the way it is deployed over here as others have said is a tragedy waiting to happen for the responding officers who go into situations without the appropriate tools backing them up.

The other officer didn't get Tazered as such but he got too close to the barbs and got the effects of the deployment. Pretty funny. It's not my team but I know most of the officers involved and they all did a cracking job with an extremely violent and dangerous individual.
Charlie 606
Some things I've noticed about that Hackney video that were interesting or amusing (I wasn't there; I'm not criticising): Taser was fired within a few seconds of the taser officers arriving. At one point, an officer is holding three batons. She's doing it for the right reasons but it made me laugh! One officer seems completely exhausted, he may've been the first on scene or the first one dealing with the suspect. Can anyone tell what was in the suspect's left hand? I wasn't aware there was a pre-requisite amount of time you had to wait as a Taser officer before deploying it.... If you notice from the description posted under the video by the uploader the situation had already been going on some time with officers shouting at the male to drop the weapon, so it's not as if they're going into it blind or withotu any awareness of what's already happened. He had been chased quite a distance already hence the amount of officers there (responding to the foot chase and urgent assistance). It is basically the whole response team. Steady on Robocop, I'm on your side - I meant Taser was required prior to the arrival of Taser officers. The weapon was garden shears. He had been chased quite a distance already hence the amount of officers there (responding to the foot chase and urgent assistance). It is basically the whole response team. Yes, I saw the shears - was wondering what was in his left hand.
Management Chief Cheetah 6,915 Posted May 24, 2015 Management Share Posted May 24, 2015 If it were my force and we needed that many officers we'd have to be asking neighbouring forces for assistance. I counted over 20 bobbies there at one point. Still, a good resolution with nobody seriously hurt and the necessary detention made.
