XA84 + 443
Hi all, So I'm with Virgin and have their Vivid 200 service, I've just been offered an upgrade at no extra cost onto their Vivid 200 Gamer service with a static IP. I do use some VPS's for things like VPN's and other stuff but I was wondering whether I actually need the static IP element as my router generally deals with all the networking. Is there any benefits of having a static IP on a personal connection. Thanks in advance. XA84

Techie1 + 2,024
Some VPNs (workplaces etc) might need static IPs although that would only be for paranoid employers.Would the main difference with gamer profiles be a faster upload speed? (and with ADSL maybe a lower download speed. Compromise a bit of the download speed to gain some upload speed?) Although with VM it looks like you get 200/20 Mbps with the gamer profile, rather than the standard 200/12 Mbps.
