A serving police officer has appeared at court charged with a firearms offence.

PC Richard Pocock, who was based at Newark, was arrested on 3 February 2015 after an unlicensed shotgun was discovered at his home address.

On Thursday (14 May), the 30-year-old appeared at Nottingham magistrates’ court, where he pleaded guilty to possessing the weapon without a certificate between January 2014 and February 2015.

The matter has been adjourned for pre-sentence reports until 23 June.

PC Pocock remains suspended from duty, pending the outcome of conduct proceedings.

Det Supt Jackie Alexander said: “Police officers are expected to uphold the law and live their lives in accordance with it. Richard Pocock had a shotgun at his home address without a certificate, which is against the law.

"There are many risks associated with unlicensed firearms and Pocock, in his role as a police officer should recognise the importance of ensuring everything was above board.

“His guilty admission reflects that he knew he had done wrong, and he now has to face the consequences of this.”
