I spoke to recruitment two days ago because they wanted to give me a medical date and provisional start date. I had to resend my tattoo pictures off and references for work and authority to allow ep to contact my references so I done that. And then got the email today saying I wasn't eligible. After speaking over the phone I'm not sure what to do. <removed> is who I spoke to and she basically said because I got disqualified last year (parking in zigzag and 50 in 40mph zone) I was rejected. <removed> recruitment in Chelmsford said at assessment centre you don't need a DL for this role at all. I spoke to dvla and they said anything on your driving record record gets wiped compleatly clean so can't say what fines etc I've had before. Basically last year I had a fine for speeding 50 in 40 zone. I paid it and accepted 3 points which took me to 6. For some reason they refunded it because they hadn't received my licence back in time. So went to court in Southend and got disqualified for 3 months. The judge was very nice she had been told my aspiration to join essex police so wanted to help me and give me the best outcome which wouldn't affect my application. Normal circumstances I should of been banned for 6 months I got 3 and fined min 500 and I got 150. She didn't have to ban me but she said if she doesn't I'll be stuck with the points for now and 5 years untill there removed and apply then. But she said if she bans me ill have clean licence and 0 points. I applied for the regulars last year but because of that she said I can reapply when have 0 points in January. And April 19th I can go for it again but decided to go for the special route instead. <removed> said I can reapply in 6 months October and will be ok then, but in theory that will still be within 5 years so doesn't make sense. It says to be open and honest or you'll get rejected I was honest and got rejected. What would you advise? I'm absolutely gutted. Really really thought I'd done it pictured myself do something I've always loved.
Just wanted to get an update as to what individual forces allow with regard to driving in the special constabulary. The old table is a a few years out of date - I know a few forces have new policies now. Here's a survey for you to complete if you like. I'll collate the responses into a snazzy table. Mods: Wasn't sure whether to put this in the specials recruitment forum or not. Please move if you think necessary.
