Chief Bakes posted a topic in South Wales Police / Heddlu De CymruJune 14, 2015 The collision happened in Penpont, near Brecon Police chiefs are investigating how two marked police vehicles were involved in a smash with each other on a quiet country road. Motorists were amazed to see the wreckage of a patrol car and police van after they hit each other in broad daylight. The marked police Vauxhall van and the Ford Kuga patrol car were left facing each other after the crash which blocked the road. Two officers sustained minor injuries - as the vehicles also demolished a Victorian post box which had been in use for 120 years at Penpont, near Brecon. The road between Brecon and Sennybridge was closed to all traffic for 90 minutes to allow breakdown trucks to tow the vehicles away. But police refused to say if either or both vehicles were on a 999 emergency call when they crashed. One motorist who arrived on the scene minutes afterwards said: "I can't understand how it happened. It was a clear day on a straight stretch of road. "It was fortunate no-one was killed. Police said both vehicles were out of action while the damage, believed to run into thousands of pounds, was being assessed. An investigation into how the collision happened is still being carried out. A Dyfed-Powys spokeswoman said: "The circumstances are being investigated and both vehicles are non-operational." Royal Mail officials said the postbox will be repaired and re-installed at the roadside in the hamlet of Penpont.
