  1. Hello everyone, A few weeks ago I got my conditional offer letter for West Mercia Special Constabulary after completing the assessment centre. I have given them all of the from's for eyesight, CTC vetting, Force vetting and employment references. My question is how long did the application process take from first applying to the start of training, and how long does training take before you become a certified special constable?
  2. Hi, This forum was recommended to me by a serving special constable so I thought I would join up. I have always wanted to be a police officer and so, in 2009, I successfully applied to the Met. Unfortunately, due to the budget cuts, I was told that although I was successful, I was not able to start my employment. This really hit me hard but in the meantime I decided to go and get a degree. University was interesting, but I could never shake the fact that I was *this* close to becoming a police officer. Over Christmas 2014, I heard that Dorset was recruiting, so I jumped at the chance to apply again. I passed the online questionnaires and the paper sift and I now have my assessment centre in 10 days' time. I was wondering if someone could either give me some advice to really nail this assessment, or if I could be directed to the thread concerning it please?     Hi I sent in my application 3 weeks ago, does anyone have any idea when I should hear back? Also I have just been looking over my application and noticed 2 silly errors, does anyone have any idea of how many mistakes are allowed on the form before they bin it?
  6. When I started the specials recruitment process I tried to look up a rough timescale, but could not find one anywhere. This is obviously due to individual force's, the individuals that are applying and their personal circumstances. Below is my timeline, it seems to have gone smoothly so hopefully this is an average timeline. Application form completed – mid/End of May First correspondence back to offer dates for assessment day (taken as a woohoo!) - end of June. Assessment day (Interview, Situational Judgement and Written) – mid July. Vetting Personal - End of July. Vetting Financial - End of July. Doctor’s report and eye test – end of July. Substance Misuse – Mid August. Biometric testing – Mid August. Police Medical – Mid October. Offer as a special – Start of Nov. Training starts – End of Nov. Attestation planned for – March 2015! Application Process To become a Special Constable within Dyfed-Powys Police, an applicant can find the application forms and other information on the Dyfed-Powys Police website. If you have been successful in passing the paper sift, you will in due course receive a date for an Assessment Centre. Training Training has changed over the years; it has previously been 6 weekends, then 8 weekends. Rank Structure Dyfed-Powys Police service, through late 2010 and early 2011 re-structured its Special Constabulary; The Special Constabulary is the part-time volunteer section. Its officers are known as Special Constables (all hold the office of Constable no matter what their rank) or informally as Specials. It has become known to many organisations as well as the police that volunteers are best managed by volunteers, so this new command and rank structure has been designed with that in mind, to boost the effectiveness of the Special Constabulary. All Special Constables are advised to inform their employers of their appointment and the hours they are likely to perform each week so as to satisfy certain requirements under the Working Time Regulations (WTR). Do you take my Fingerprints? All appointees to the Special Constabulary are required to have their fingerprints taken. The recruitment process for PCSO's differs from force to force, but it has been noted that generally forces will use the following: Telephone Interview This tends to be a few eligibility questions that each candidate must complete prior to being put forward for the next stage. Application Form This is a standard application form (however some forces add pages) which is competancy based. Included will be a vetting form. Assessment Centre This stage consists of both written and oral communication exercises but varies from force to force. In many cases the A/C for PCSO's is the same as SC's. Formal Interview This stage consists of competancy based questions and knowlege of the role, force area, policing priorities etc. This is usually conducted by a senior Police Officer, a member of HR or a Recruitment & Selection trained member of Police Staff (including serving PCSO's). Medical Assessment This is the standard Police Staff medical with everything you could expect. It is worthy of noting that a handful of forces require each candidate to pass the standard Police job related fitness test. Vetting & Background Checks This stage related to the vetting, background and financial checks of each candidate which can take anything from one to eight weeks to complete. Offer Of Appointment Once all of the above stages have been completed successfully by the candidate, an offer of appointment will be made by the force.
