Rocket + posted a topic in UK Policing NewsTwo Met officers were hurt as they arrested a “frenzied” man hurling knives in a quiet north London street. The constables, aged 24 and 26, were today praised for their bravery for subduing the attacker who terrified neighbours yards from where children were playing football in the evening sunshine. Police were called to Kingsdown Road, Holloway, at just after 6pm yesterday following a series of 999 calls. When the pair approached, the man - who was said to be “shouting like a maniac” - proceeded to throw a number of large knives at them. He then assaulted the two officers, leaving one with a minor head injury and the other with cuts to his face and body. The pair arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and restrained him until back-up arrived. Both were later taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. The junction, by the North Nineteen pub, was sealed off behind a police cordon into the early hours this morning as inquiries continued. Two large knives could be seen in the middle of the street. One resident said: “The guy came out of his house and started throwing knives at them. “One of the police officers was bottled on the back of the head and the other was sliced. The man was also injured himself.” Another said: “I was in the garden and heard it all echoing. I heard a man’s loud voice he was screaming like a maniac. He was very angry. “All the kids play out here, they were all playing football nearby. It’s madness, it makes me sick.” Detective Chief Superintendent Catherine Roper, Borough Commander of Islington, said: “Officers responded to an emergency call and were confronted by an extremely violent male. “This male attempted to seriously assault the officers, including throwing knives at them in the street where other people were present. “These officers displayed immense bravery and professionalism, and were able to detain the male without sustaining serious injury to him, other members of the public or themselves.” No other arrests have been made in connection with this incident. http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/police-officers-injured-by-frenzied-man-throwing-knives-at-them-in-leafy-north-london-street-10379477.html
