Why does the debate about arming all officers always compare us to the Americans? 1 2 3

Why does the debate about arming all officers always compare us to the Americans? Surely a better comparison would be with New Zealand, whose officers are all trained in firearms but don't routinely carry. Or Australia or the Netherlands where officers are routinely armed but they don't have the gun crime or police shootings like in the USA?

Do Northern Ireland HMP officers carry firearms? Obviously not on the wings, but more patrols outside the prison, prisoner transfers, off-duty like PSNI etc? Thanks.

Hi Guys I am new to this forum so please excuse me if this is the incorrect place to post this thread. I am looking to introduce our company to UK Police Firearms Training units. We are established and already supply our products to Police and MOD, however I am finding it difficult to contact individual forces and speak to the correct person regarding demonstrations and loaning equipment on trial. We are the official UK Distributors for Cornershot and the Rapid Assault System method of entry equipment, both products are used widely in Europe and the US by Law Enforcement. I would like to hear from officers who think they can perhaps point me in the r…

Hi guys, Just a quick question in relation to becoming a firearms officer and hearing standards, are there stricter hearing standards or are they the same as the initial medical you do during police recruitment. Also do regular police officers have annual medical tests? Cheers Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk

Morning All, so o have an interest in becoming a firearms officer, however I wear glasses / contact lenses. I’m under the impression that I will be able to apply with little issue, my question is, those out there that already do the role and wear glasses/contacts. Do you find you have any issues? Do you always wear contact lenses? Cheers PCW

Military and police destroying guns and ammo
by SM_Banned- 1 reply

After the First World War, specifically 1920s, the Government made its goal to destroy surplus weapons and ammunition, so it would not fall into the wrong hands. onto the Second World War, the home guard was only armed with spikes, rifles. America had to supply the other weapons, after the shortage of weapons. This requires balance between destroying weapons and making sure you don’t have a shortage of them. Does the uk military today have enough weapons and ammo for the next war? Do you think they have learn the lesson? let me know your thoughts.

Shotgun query from a writer

Hi All, I'm a novelist and want to get my facts right! If someone used a shotgun without wearing gloves, would there be any sort of residue on their hands afterwards that could be detected forensically? (It'd be great to know what the test is as well, but one step at a time!) I thought it was better asking the experts than consulting Dr Google. Many thanks, Derek

I was looking for a video when I stumbled over this: Yip, 1997!! but what got me thinking was if you replace the words CS Spray with Taser then what's the difference? You wouldn't go out on shift without CS/PAVA, fast forward 17 years from now and I wonder what we will think of this whole taser stuff, the only good thing is no one will remember who Sophie Kahn is!
