Pensions position 48 years old with 28 years in

Hi all Currently off work following a long bout of work related PTSD and anxiety. I am due to return to work soon but I am seriously thinking of leaving prior to my 30 years on the 1987 scheme. I currently have 27.5 years at age 48. I really have had my fill and don't mind the reduction in commutation as my kids are secure and house paid off etc. If I resign this year will I get a pension payable at 50? Or is the ordinary pension only payable with 25 plus years AND you have reached the age of 50 when you sling your proverbial hook? Thanks in advance for any help.

Owed leave

May be leaving current force for pastures greener. Could anyone confirm that owed leave should be payed, along with MRDs? I have 190hrs and 6 MRDs owed, which by my calculations, at top whack is between £5-6k. Due to staffing, I will be unable to take any of this prior to leaving, as I’ll be giving 28days on the button.

Return from career break on what hours?!

Hi. Currently on 2nd year of career break. I have 20 years service. Due back to work in March 2019. I was working part time on reactive in 2017. I've recently had spinal surgery and won't be able to return to reactive. My plan was always going to be yo return to full time. Where do I stand in regard to returning to full time hours when I was previously part time but unable to return to my previous role? Could work refuse to increase my hours up to full time upon my return? Not sure where they're thinking of putting me yet as I'll be referred to OHU due to surgery. Thanks.

I am currently undergoing pre employment checks to start as a student officer with South Yorkshire Police. They state on the website that the starting salary is either £18,450 or £24,177. They say it depends on qualifications and experience. How do they decide wether your qualifications and experience justify the higher rate?

Early Retirement 25 years but under 50?
by Bailey99- 1 follower

Hi. My question is at what point can I take early retirement? I will be 47yrs old on 25 years service. I understand I can't access my pension until I am 50yrs? Does this mean I could retire at 47yrs and then have my pension paid when I'm 50yrs or do I have to stay in the Service until I'm 50? I've recently had spinal surgery and I'm struggling at work, currently on restricted duties. I'm hoping I can manage the last 4 years until early retirement. I don't want to resign because then I become a deferred member and wouldn't be able to access my pension until I'm 60. Many Thanks.

I was diagnosed with ptsd last year. The trauma is not work related. I am currently off work and heading towards no pay. Both medication and counselling has not worked for me. I am pinning my hope on some therapy that is due to start soon. my question is what happens if this doesn’t work? I would have then exhausted every treatment option. My gp has indicated I’m not fit for policing anymore and I’m scared I will be off work on no pay and forgotten about because I’m costing nothing. Can work keep me on no pay forever? I had never anticipated to be on long term sick. thanks in advance

Hi all, I have been a spectator of the forum for quite some time (included the other forum when it was up and running) and I now have a few questions related to the current salary, allowances and pension. I am towards the end of my training as a Special Constable for The Met but I have also submitted my application for the Regulars and have an interview date confirmed, hence the question about pay. The advertised salary states it is £30k circa for a Regular in The Met however, I have noticed that the allowances have changed around a little I live in London, so I am eligible for both London weighting which is £2,379 and London allowance which is £1,01…

Pay/salary. It’s important; there’s not need to be ashamed of admitting that. As Police Officers or members of the EPF, we have a ‘Duty First’ mentality, but let’s not pretend that the one day a month when our bank account gets some positive attention, is not at least near to the top of our list of priorities. Hence my post. Newly married. First child on the way. Mortgage to pay. Car payments/petrol. Council tax. Home insurance. Life insurance(s). Countless other bills/debts. We all have them and they all require a stable if not ever increasing income, to prevent them from climbing on top of us and smothering us. I’m not asking to be rich beyond my wildest drea…

Police Pension Calculator Our Pension Calculator is designed to help you understand the impact that the changes to Police Pensions could have on your future income when you retire. The calculator will give an estimate of the amount you will have built up during the existing pension schemes, either the 1987 Scheme or the 2006 Scheme. It will also predict the benefits you could earn under the new pension scheme, the 2015 CARE Scheme. If you are in the 1987 scheme with full protection and not subject to the Police Pension reforms, our Commutation Slider Tool could help you to find the perfect balance between income and lump sum. This pension and commutation cal…
