ring doorbell Ring Doorbell

Anyone had any experience with a Ring Doorbell? I was thinking about getting one but aside from an awful lot of websites saying how wonderful they are I'm not sure I have seen much impartial feedback. It would need to be recharged as I don't have a powered doorbell at present to wire it into. There doesn't appear to be a lot of people out there saying how often this would need to happen. I'm aware that this would depend somewhat on how often it is triggered etc but what is the battery lifelike? I'm not sure if it is worthwhile getting the monthly subscription so any insight on that would also be good. Cheers

The Daily Mail is calling for a web browser alert that criticises its journalism to be changed. The NewsGuard plug-in currently brings up a warning that says the newspaper's website "generally fails to maintain basic standards of accuracy and accountability". https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-46976834 Has anyone used this plug in? What do you make of it? Do you agree with its critique of the Daily Mail that it "generally fails to maintain basic standards of accuracy and accountability"?

Vaping

I'm hoping to get a bit of information as to whether it is possible to vape without nicotine. I'm an ex smoker and have recently completely quit but still find that my hands are always lost miss the feeling of holding something. I'm thinking of trialling vaping to see how that works out. Would anyone be able to offer me any advice on a starting kit (non nicotine) and any kit to look out for? Ive been advised to check out a Innokin Proton Plex as its a beginner device that I can grow with. If it helps i'm after a straight to lung device. Thanks in advance. XA84

On my laptop running Windows 10 i was having a problem where videos on all websites were showing as zoomed in and grey, this only happened when my power cable was connected to the laptop, anyway the problem turned out to be that the AMD Steady video on the control center was enabled, so i disabled that and applied changed. It worked for a while however the AMD Steady Video automatically gets enabled for some reason, so every few hours i have to disable it. i am not sure why this happens. Any ideas/solutions?

Hi all, I'm in the market for a new VPN service as I'm fairly privacy conscious and was wondering whether you guys could recommend a service that you're happy with. I've just left NordVPN but on checking out the market I'm thinking of going back but thought I'd check in here first to see if anyone can recommend anything different that's just as good. Thanks in advance. XA84

Windows 10 black screen of death with cursor
by The Greater Good +- 4 replies

I had a powercut this afternoon and when I managed to start the pc up it only gets to the windows 10 log in, after that it is a black screen with a cursor. I have tried most things, F8 doesn't work on my keyboard, I did manage to get in the registry and then into files so it is purely a start up fault. Anyone any ideas? Desperately need my pc to pitch for work!

Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone has any Android smartwatches that they use on a daily basis and what their thoughts on them are. I've been wanting to get one for a while but can't justify using something that will only mimic my phone which is in my pocket anyway? I'm looking at either the Huawei Watch 2 or Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier edition. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I want to make a movie

For some odd reason I find myself in possession of an action camera, a bit like a GoPro only it's an Eken. If you knew me you'd laugh at this notion. Anyway It has the facility to take pictures on a timed mode for as long as it has battery power. Today I set it to take a picture every 10 seconds whilst looking out of my home office window. It was attached to an external battery power pack so it worked for a number of hours. I now have a couple of thousand pictures 10 seconds apart. I want some software to make this into a movie but being a skinflint I want some free software. I have only done this once and I don't know if I'll do it again so I don'…

Are Game being reasonable? 1 2

Long Story short bought iPhone 6, 3 months from Game was second hand but Grade A condition, I have a 12 month warranty. A few weeks ago realised Seri does not respond to me and also when making a call via WhatsApp the person on the other end can’t hear me. Took it into Game today, explained the situation, the assistant took the mobile away for 20 minutes, came back and confirmed there is a fault with the phone. I wanted a full refund or mobile exchange, however because there was a software update yesterday, they claim they cannot verify that the same problem would have occurred with the old version, they claim the new software version has a known problem an…

Anybody looking at getting one? I looked at the 8 Plus and then quickly talked myself out of it as I've only had the 7 Plus for a year. That, and nothing ever changes! I do think that apple are behind Samsung by a few years but I don't think i'd make the change.

International copyright law

Basically, does anyone know anything about it? My wife set up a business back in 2014, and comissioned a logo for her website and social media. She has discovered yesterday that someone in South Africa has taken that logo and is using it on her Facebook business page, doing the same job as my wife. My wife has sent a message to this page giving her 24 hours to stop using it now and in the future, and that she and her graphic designer are not happy. How would she go about escalating this if needed? Facebook seem hard to contact to try and pull the page, is there anything else that can be done? I realise it may seem 'small potatoes', but she has worked e…

Static IP

Hi all, So I'm with Virgin and have their Vivid 200 service, I've just been offered an upgrade at no extra cost onto their Vivid 200 Gamer service with a static IP. I do use some VPS's for things like VPN's and other stuff but I was wondering whether I actually need the static IP element as my router generally deals with all the networking. Is there any benefits of having a static IP on a personal connection. Thanks in advance. XA84

On random pages on this forum is a 'pop up' ad which I do not see anywhere else. This invites me and presumably others to click on the tab to get quick access to my E mail. This seems to be a google add, but is an unwanted and an unwarranted intrusion onto the forum. As I said I do not see it anywhere else but here. It is not there every time, but I am suspicious of anything that offers a 'Free Update' for anything relating to computers. I ignore it but someone may click on this sometime and we do not know if it is legitimate or not. There is another one I have just seen with a big green button for a PDF Converter. Is management aware of these
