The recruitment process for PCSO's differs from force to force, but it has been noted that generally forces will use the following: Telephone Interview This tends to be a few eligibility questions that each candidate must complete prior to being put forward for the next stage. Application Form This is a standard application form (however some forces add pages) which is competancy based. Included will be a vetting form. Assessment Centre This stage consists of both written and oral communication exercises but varies from force to force. In many cases the A/C for PCSO's is the same as SC's. Formal Interview This stage consists of competancy based questions and knowlege of the role, force area, policing priorities etc. This is usually conducted by a senior Police Officer, a member of HR or a Recruitment & Selection trained member of Police Staff (including serving PCSO's). Medical Assessment This is the standard Police Staff medical with everything you could expect. It is worthy of noting that a handful of forces require each candidate to pass the standard Police job related fitness test. Vetting & Background Checks This stage related to the vetting, background and financial checks of each candidate which can take anything from one to eight weeks to complete. Offer Of Appointment Once all of the above stages have been completed successfully by the candidate, an offer of appointment will be made by the force.
