New Links Directory

Providing those useful links to other partnership sites and support networks that can help in all sets of circumstances is something that we felt would be beneficial to our membership and would be useful to have in one, simple to use directory.

Whether that be from locating the web address of a local force or federation office through to receiving help, guidance and support from 3rd sector organisations that can help those in need we hope that Links Directory is something that is of use.

With this in mind we have launched our brand new LINKS DIRECTORY available from the main menu.

Now you may feel you want to add a suitable link and description to appear in our directory, this is available for members to add within most categories so feel free to let us know of places that can help when help is needed. (All links will need to be approved by a moderator before being visible)

We hope you find it of use and I look forward to hearing any feedback etc.

Many Thanks

A New Look & Membership Discount

You can't help but have noticed that the site has changed in how it looks, well this is part of our two year anniversary celebration.  Believe it or not it is almost two years to the day since we launched.

The site was created about a week before we went live in 2014 and the moderation team who came over worked really hard for that week to populate it ready for an influx of new members.  Who would have thought that two years later we would be where we are.

We have kept the site up to to date with all the latest software and security updates and this new look you are seeing and now using is all part of that.  This new look gives us the latest forum design as well as enhanced control over who can access parts of the site.  Nothing should have changed for you in reality, you may see some areas look a bit different but if you didn't have access to them before it's just another layer of security and you still don't have access.  Of course you could always support the site and sign up for VIP membership or get yourself verified to see those areas.

As part of our birthday celebration we will be offering a 25% discount on Lifetime VIP membership.  This makes it only £22.50 as a one off payment, giving access to the VIP areas and perks.  However, this is only valid for 48 hours until 23:59 on the 31st October.  Use the promotional code 'BIRTHDAY' to take advantage of this offer.

We hope you like it and if you have any comments then please feel free to make them in the discussion thread for this blog post.

New VIP Feature - Ignore Topics

For some time there has always been the facility to follow content and be notified of responses as and when replies are made to your favourite topics but how about those topics that you read and then question why they keep appearing in your news feed as they are of no interest to you?

Well as of today as a VIP or Lifetime VIP member you will have the ability to Ignore Topics. This will prevent it coming up in your news feed and in any searches you make if you choose to ignore it. You will be able to review all "Ignored Topics" in your profile area. You will still see the topics in the forum view area but it will have an "Ignored" badge next to it to help you identify that it is in your ignore list.

All you need to do is place an order direct on our website by clicking HERE. We will place your logo under the forum and the logo will link to your website. You do not have to have an association to the specific forum area and any company can sponsor any area.

The monies raised through this as per any other forum area will allow us to keep the Police Community Forum as the best policing forum in the UK. Remember we are privately owned and all monies raised are re-invested and go towards our running and maintenance costs.

We appreciate your support.

Two New Awards

With the introduction of our awards system here at Police Community we intend to introduce a series of awards that are automated and granted based upon your activity across the forum. With this in mind we have started our first two automated awards which are for a contribution to the blog section or a contribution to our downloads section.

Some people will have already made contributions to these areas and for that we are grateful however in order to qualify for the new awards you need to post a new blog entry or upload a new file for the benefit of the community. Only when you do this will the award be added to your profile.

None of the staff have the ability to manually add this so contributing again in these areas is the only way to add these awards to your profile.

So - to write a blog article of what you did on duty etc then please visit http://www.police.community/blogs

To upload a new file for the benefit of the members then please visit http://www.police.community/files

All our awards can be seen here http://police.community/awards/

Enjoy

Badges and Awards

We are very pleased to announce that the Awards and Badges have now returned to the forum.

Some of you will see that you already have some awards or achievements in your forum posts.  Those who already have them will have got them as a result of the transfer over from the old site all that time ago, however, a lot of you won't have them.

If you do have them or when you do get them they will display either on the left under your name or at the bottom of each post.  Awards are on the left and achievements will be along the bottom.  You can also see all the award and achievements you or anyone else has by looking at their profile and you can see what awards are available and who has them by clicking here:

http://police.community/awards/

So how do you get them I hear you ask.  It's easy.  For the most part you just ask for it.  Some of them we can verify such as serving officer status, the badges such as Long Service or Jubilee medals we will award on request based on trust, if you say you got them then we will award then.  If you shouldn't have them then you really do need to be asking yourself just how sad is it that you want to display a badge on a forum signifying an award?  Add on to that the fact that eventually you'll likely be sussed as not really deserving of it and then that's just embarrassing when you are outed.

In the very near future there will be many more added and these will be for things like post counts and Likes etc.  These will be automated and will be with us soon.

If you want a badge then they can be awarded by any of the full mods so all you need to do is send them a message or speak to them in the chat room (when available) and they will do the rest for you.

Let us know what you think

VIP Live Support

In line with our ambition to continually improve and develop the services we here at Police Community offer to our members we realised that we need to improve the 'Priority Support' we offer to our VIP members and with this in mind we have been working hard to develop and integrate a solution that will do just that.

For those of you that know the team and have been members for a fair bit of time, you will notice how committed the team are and that they are always online, well almost always! With this in mind we are able to offer Live dedicated support to our VIP members so that they can speak with a member of the team instantly if there are any issues that you need to raise or discuss.

When no member of the team is available the 'VIP Live Support' will not display however if one of the team is online it will be available to access down the right hand side of the screen.

Snip20151104_2.thumb.png.ac13b55d9852e60

I have currently disabled Live Chat on mobile devices.

We hope that you will find it a useful addition included for FREE within your existing VIP packages and I guess it leaves me to say we will look forward to chatting with you live time in the future.

Our 1st Birthday

Good Evening

This time last year I opened the doors of Police Community for the very first time and welcomed each and every one of today's membership to join in our new forum. Since embarking on the journey to create the forum I have been overwhelmed by the level of support and engagement our members have had.

In that 12 month period we have been supported by our sponsors @Gladstoneboots LTD and @Police-Supplies who had the foresight to see the true potential of Police Community and were quick to offer up their sponsorship which has allowed us to deliver on some projects and developments that we wanted to bring to our members so I thank both of them and hope to continue working in partnership for the foreseeable future.

Of course, to make a forum like Police Community a true success there are some key individuals that help both on the frontend but also in the background. The moderation team led by @Cheetah have been truly fantastic in the time, commitment and support they have shown myself and @Chief Rat. Without that support we would not be able to keep the forum focused, the content fresh and relevant and ultimately give the forum the edge over our competitors from our forum descending into chaos. They ensure we have a sense of purpose and for moderating over 10,000 posts per month, a huge thank you from me to each and every one of the team.

Lastly, where do I start,  Over 1800 Members, Over 120,000 posts and Over 45,000 topics in the last 12 months our members have truly grown Police Community to be a very successful 1st year forum. You have welcomed new members, been supportive of others looking to join the police service and have created some very interesting debates along the way. Those of you that were given your VIP status for year one have already started to show your support by renewing your subscription and starting to support Police Community financially. Clearly I hope many more of you will continue to show your support in whatever way you can.

As we move into our second year and start to grow even larger I am sure we will all enjoy the use of the forum, continue to engage frequently and let's maintain that robust debate. My commitment to you is that in return I will continue to develop, build and enhance your user experience as collaboratively we work to make Police Community the leading police forum in the UK.

Happy Halloween and Thank You

Latest Forum Software

As you should all have noticed the forum software has now been updated to the latest version.

There have been one or two changes and these have caused a couple of issues for some of our members.  With this in mind this blog post should hopefully help you out with a couple of things.

Notifications
As some of you will have noticed you may have started receiving more notifications (emails).  This is in part to how the site was originally set up by the authors of the software and it was automatically set to receive notifications when you contributed to a thread, whilst you may have been subscribed it didn't send a message.  This was amended some time ago so that you don't by default automatically follow threads you contribute to.  Because you may have historically been following some and it has all been sorted with this latest release you may have found that you are now receiving a number of emails/notifications.  If you want to stop this with just a couple of clicks then that is easy.  Go into your profile and click on your notifications settings, once the screen opens you need to uncheck the two buttons as shown below

Notifications.thumb.JPG.242b984847054f8d

Make sure you then check or uncheck as necessary the buttons for what you receive notifications on

Notifications2.thumb.JPG.2cf0c1b5eac0a7f

That's it, you should no longer receive the notifications.  We apologise if this has caused you some problems.

New Content
New content has changed extensively and is now referred to as an Activity Stream.  Just as before you can change what appears in your activity stream but unlike before once you leave the site and come back it will have gone back to the default.  This is where you can now create your own activity stream and set that as your default.

At the top of the screen click on Activity, then select the Activity Stream drop down and at the bottom of here select 'Create New Stream'

ActivityStream.thumb.png.21652ef2ebf3a79

From here you can give you stream a name and choose the settings you want

CreateNewStream.thumb.JPG.7e09fa0dc7f036

Once you have made your choices and saved it you can go into your stream from the drop as shown above, whilst in there you will see a circle with a tick in it beside your streams name, click this and it becomes your default, it even gets added to the top of each page for ease

56312d1945357_NewContentForCheetah.thumb

So that is a stream for me to use, however, you can share a stream with anybody simply by letting them know the number in the url or by sharing the url (if you have some enhanced permissions then only you will see those, you can only see what you are entitled to see).  So with that in mind if you want to know what my Activity Stream is like then here it is for you to save as your own

New Web Address Is Live

Just a quick note to let you know we have changed the address of the forum from http://forum.policecommunity.co.uk and made it simpler to just http://police.community

All the old links will still work, nothing should be broken, you will simply be re-directed to the original content under its new name. It will feel seamless to you and you will not have to do anything other than carry on using the site. The only difference is that when you tell anyone about the forum you now just need to remember two words and put a dot in the middle when entering it into your web address bar

Testing, Testing, 123

What's the most times you've ever edited a post you made?  Edited it because something was wrong or didn't look right?  Maybe you added something thinking it would look brilliant but in the end it didn't so you edited it.  Maybe you wanted to add something but thought it wouldn't look good so you didn't.

We may have a solution for you.

Another new feature we have added is our new Test Area. You need to be logged in to use it but that is about as far as the rules go (aside from normal forum rules).

But what is it for I hear you ask.  Well you can create a post in there and tinker with it all you like, you can add things and take things away, you can experiment and try new things all safe in the knowledge that the only people able to see it is you and the moderation team.  On the front page it may show that there are many posts but rest assured you can only see your own entries.  If you are having trouble with a post or with a new thread you can try it in here and then ask a question of the mod team for help.  We can't guarantee a prompt reply here as it is only for test stuff and not a replacement for reporting problems.  If you are having issues with the forum then they should be raised in the normal way via a support ticket.

Here's some further information about the area:

* The forum is not routinely monitored by our administrators or moderators.
* Posts in this forum will not increase your account's post count.
* You can only see your own topics in this forum. Other member topics will not be visible to you.

So if you were ever in doubt about what a post or thread would look like then you can test it here first.

Police Community Premier League Table

Points make prizes.

I present to you the Police Community Premier League Table

Another new feature we are presenting to you is a league table.  At the end of the month a member wins our member of the month award for their overall contribution to the forum in that month, this premier league table is for the same purpose except that we will be awarding the prize of 'Member Of The Year'.

So how do you win points?  Easy, just enter and win our competitions, including the daily threads and you'll get a point, become the member of the month and you'll get a point, win the monthly photography competition and you'll get a point, make a great post or create a great thread and you can win a point.  If you do something good on the forum you'll win a point and the member with the most points at the end of the year will become our member of the year.

We have already populated the points table from January through to May for the competitions and the last couple of daily threads have also received their points.  You can see in each of the member threads what the points were awarded for.

The league table is available from the members drop down menu at the top of the forum pages so keep your eye on it and if you think you deserve points for something then contact a mod and we'll look into it.

The Police Community Premier League Table can be found in that link.

P.S. We are in no way affiliated with FiFA and we are not susceptible to bribes so don't even think about sending doughnuts.  I like the Jam filled ones.

Looking for a job in a Police force?

Looking for a job within the police?  Any force or a specific one?  What kind of job? Police?  Staff? Special Constable? PCSO?

To help you with your recruitment interests we now have a completely new area dedicated solely to the recruitment status of every force.

We have listed all the forces in England, Scotland and Wales and each one shows the current position on recruitment.  You can see at a glance if a specific force is actively recruiting for any of the four main roles, Police Constable, Special Constable, Police Staff or PCSO.  Each force specific area has a link to that forces recruitment and latest vacancies pages.

If you want to actively monitor a specific force (or many if you wish) you can click the 'Follow This' button in the top right of each individual page or for the whole of the recruitment area and this will give you notifications when something changes.

If you see any incorrect entries or you have some alternative information then  please do let a mod know and we will update it asap.  If you wish to comment in the recruitment section for a force then please feel free to do so.

Our new recruitment section can be found at the top of each page under 'Recruitment' or by clicking THIS LINK.

How well are you doing? A new feature.

Ever wondered how you are doing with regards to your contribution and post count compared to others?

Well now you can wonder no longer as I introduce to you the Member Leader Board. This can be found in the links bar on the top of all pages under the 'Members' heading.  It can be seen by all members but not by guests.

The bottom row will show what your contribution is and is only view-able to you so that you can compare your figures against the highest scoring 25 members by week, month, year and for all time.  The 'Top Contributors' is calculated from how many likes you have received and the 'Top Posters' is from your countable posts.

Hope you enjoy it.

Community Leads

As you should all hopefully now have noticed our communities set up in the force specific areas are beginning to grow very nicely.  This is in no small part thanks to the brilliant community leads we have that are running and managing those communities.

In total we have 49 communities on the forum but so far only 20 of them have a community lead.  We really want the other 29 areas to have a community lead of their own so if you want to be a part of the team managing the forum then this is your opportunity.  The communities are there for the community lead to run pretty much how they like.  They have quite sweeping powers in their own communities including the ability to create new areas, create password protected areas, manage other members in their community and promote others to assist them with moderation of their community along with many more.

Traditionally the starting point for future full modship on the site has started with being one of our mini mods and now that opportunity starts with being a community lead. Below is a list of the areas that still have a vacancy for a community lead so if you are interested and want to help grow the forum and to have a say in how the forum is run then please raise a support ticket selecting 'Community Lead Application' as the department and don't forget to tell us which area you want to run.

If you have any questions at all then feel free to ask here or send me a PM

avatars Use Of Force Crests As Avatars

Use of force crests as avatars

Unless you have express written permission form the force in question we are not able to use any force logos, crests or insignias in any back ground pictures or as avatars etc.  If you do get written permission from a force then we will need to see a copy of that.

This isn't me being a killjoy as we have in fact in the past been asked to remove them by forces, it is their property and they are protecting it.  If any forces want to come on board with us that will always be welcomed but in the meantime we have to respect their property.

Cheers

Tapatalk Beta Release

Folks

I know some of you used tapatalk quite a lot prior to the upgrade and are wanting it back asap. We want it back for all of you too and with this in mind I have decided to install the BETA release of the tapatalk plugin. Tapatalk will again work on this site but please be mindful certain aspects will be broken, it is a beta and not final release. Any bugs with tapatalk are not a fault on our side, they are purely an issue with the plugin. As tapatalk release updates to the beta to correct bugs we will update the forum so we are more often than not running on the very latest release.

Please feel free to give me a nudge in this blog if they release an update that you think I might have missed.

SO .... The bottom line .... it is installed, some of it works, some of it doesn't but I felt you would rather have something than nothing. If you do find issues please report them to tapatalk directly here https://support.tapatalk.com/threads/tapatalk-for-ips4-beta-feedback.30366/ - the more reports they get of issues the quicker it will get resolved so please do give them your feedback.

Don't forget that the fully responsive design of the latest forum software will mean that you are able to revert to your mobile browser at any time and use the site in its full glory.

Best Wishes

Chief Bakes
